Time for work: Kids don't get to that state overnight and will not get over it quickly.You need to find a Developmental pediatrician or pediatric GI specialist to come up with a bowel rehabilitation program. This can take up to a year &amp; involves scheduled emptying, oral softeners like miralax taken for months at a time &amp; followup visits.You can get a normal kid back but it will take work.

Some possibilities..: Feeling a knot of tightness near the belly button... Probably not in the skin, so the next layer is the muscle... Maybe a muscle strain from sit-ups or other exercises. Not likely to be a hernia there unless there is a bulge. Under the muscle layer are the intestines... Maybe some intestine contraction or spasm, due to no particular reason or to constipation. A doctor's visit can sort things out.

Umbilical henia: You could have a hernia which can pop out then go back in if you press it. Please go to your doc for full exam. If you do have hernia evantually you will need surgery as hernia always get bigger but never get smaller.

Depends: What type of surgery did you have; open or laparoscopic? Is there a healing incision at the site? I  assuming the firmness that you feel is at the site of a healing scar. It will resolve over a few months. See your surgeon for an exam to be sure that you are healing properly.

Appendectomy: The belly button is usually one site where a laparoscope is inserted (usually 3 or more are used). If the lump is red, hot and tender, the surgeon should be consulted asap. If not, it should still be looked at the next day; it may just be normal post-op healing process.
