i received the moderna vaccine approx. 2 weeks ago and developed a knot at injection site. it is unsightly, hard to the touch and the size of a small egg. has not responded to icing. how long do these knots typically last?

Accepted Answer

: Delayed inflammation at the injection site, typically starring 10-15 days after the shot, occurs with both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines. (Not yet known about other vaccines.) It's not an everyday side effect, but it isn't rare either. It isn't dangerous and will clear up in a few days. In the meantime, it's OK to take meds like ibuprofen or naproxen, which probably will help with the symptoms.

4 year old received kinrix (dtap/ipv) vaccine yesterday and has large bruise, mild swelling and hard knot at injection site - normal?

Accepted Answer

Not uncommon: These vaccines are injected into muscle which may knot up for several days after the injection.If the needle passes through a small vein during the injection it can bleed more than usual, producing the bruise. The swelling would be a response to both. It is not uncommon or considered an "allergic" response.

Yes.: This is not unusual at all.  The swelling may come from the injected fluid itself, small amount of swelling, maybe some local bleeding and later an inflammatory reaction which is a normal response to foreign substances in the body.

Accepted Answer

Common finding: Most vaccines are given into the muscle underneath the skin and can cause a transient knot to form. This usually subsides in a few days to a week but occasionally persists for longer.It is not considered a sign of an allergic reaction.

i've used depo as a bc method in the past w/ no issues. i've decided to use it again after giving birth. why is there a knot at the injection site?

Injection site lump: The injection site for depoprovera should not be in one location. Using it for BC is safe for a few years at most, and then one should take a break for several reasons.  The site of the injection should vary every three to four months when taking the depoprovera.  The "lump" is not worrisome, but is due to probable scar tissue from the needle.

my fianc receive a la bacillin shot exactly a week ago in his left thigh... he now has a medium sized knot under the injection site... is that normal?

Possibly: Yes, this can occur.  If, however, there is warmth, redness, pain or tenderness in this area or it becomes progressively worse he should seek medical attention.

Normal: It is not uncommon! if there is no fever and it starts improving  she is fine.

Several days perhaps: A local bruise or hematoma and swelling are not uncommon near injection sites. A small vessel (vein) was likely traversed by the needle upon tissue penetration. The best indicator of resolution is decreasing pain, swelling and fading of dark discoloration from black, purple, and blue, to brown and yellow.

Usually a few days: Most of the time, these areas last only a few days. Sometimes there is a little bleeding at the injection site and it may last longer, usually 1-2 weeks.

i recently got my covid shot (moderna) and the injection site feels like there is a knot, slightly burning, swollen, and very sore. i am asumming this is normal? how long does this usually last?

Accepted Answer

: It should get better in a day or so. You may take acetaminophen, for the pain, no more than 4 g/day, no alcohol.
