i had my knee arthroscopy last feb 19, it's been 2 weeks now,  my knee is still swollen, can't walk, can't bend, small walk with crutches,  stiff calf?

See your surgeon: It sounds like you ought to call the surgeon that performed the arthroscopy and get examined. I wouldn't expect you to have these symptoms two weeks after your procedure.

Swollen knee: It's hard to know why you still have swelling without knowing how much damage there was in your knee. Typical reasons for the swelling are blood, inflammatory fluid, or an infection. Your doctor may have to drain the knee to improve your symptoms and give you a reason for the swelling.

Arthritis vs tear: People who have had a previous tear of a meniscus treated with partial or complete excision are at risk for arthritis of the knee in the years following. This could causeswelling and pain on weight bearing . Progression or re-tearing of the remaining meniscus can occur and cause same symptoms.

See your doctor: Assuming by your question you have had a septic knee previously, you need to be evaluated quickly. If infection is present in your knee, timely treatment is essential. You may not be able to avoid another surgery, but quick treatment could help you avoid more major treatment.

should the swelling be gone? i had arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus 2 weeks ago, and my knee is still swollen at times. is that something i should be concerned about?

It : It will usually take a few weeks for the swelling to subside.  If you have some arthritis as well as a meniscus tear it can take longer for the fluid in your knee to be absorbed.  At two weeks post-operation i would not be too worried about having an occasionally swollen knee.

Possible: Depending on the severity of your underlying diseases and inflammation, the swelling 2 weeks later may be normal.  Discuss with your Ortho dr. and ask all the questions to them as they know your case the best.  Good wishes.

Associated problems: Knee arthroscopy is great to address mechanical pathology such as a loose body or meniscus tear; however, associated problems like hyaline cartilage injuries, systemic arthritis, synovitis, or ligament i laxity might not have been fixed or addresses with either arthroscopy.

dr tightened my acl and scraped out alot of ruff tissue in my knee during an arthroscopy last october he said i would feel relief but i still havepain?

Chronic pain: Even after successful surgical cure, over 3% of people develop chronic pain. This has multiple causes, and you have to fight it with all you have. Hydrocodone will actually increase nerve sensitivity to pain in the long run. Better is to develop 10-15 strategies to fight pain when it tries to take over your life. Include positive words, thoughts, feelings, visualizations, beliefs and peppermint.
