   If I had such difficulties with my knees/hips post surgery, I would consult with a Prof. of Orthopedics at teaching hospital for a second opinion. DDS could understand stress of situation which could  exacerbate TMJ symptoms.

Arthritis: You may have arthritis, or a tear of the meniscus which has allowed a cyst to form behind the knee.  Would recommend an evaluation.

Chondromalacia: There are several causes for knee pain. It sounds as if it could be chondromalacia in your case. See an orthopedist in any event. Chondromalacia can improve significantly with proper exercises and the occasional use of anti-inflammatory meds.

It could help you: Having the knee for while and left with foot drop this mean this was a serious injury, have the cortisone shot and see how long it will help you, if did not help for long time ask your doctor order MRI on the knee if there is some else causing the pain.

Both are possible.: It is not uncommon for a nerve condition of the lumbar spine or a hip condition to refer pain to the knee. It is also possible to develop knee conditions (bursitis/tendonitis) as a result of an altered gate caused by "sciatica".  An evaluation including a thorough history and appropriate physical exam is necessary to determine the cause of knee pain.

A few thoughts: You have to consider what is behind the knee. There are blood vessels, tendons, muscles, knee joint. You have to consider each of these. When you are evaluated these will be looked at to try to clarify your symptoms.

Knee pain: Sounds like patellofemoral (PF) syndrome. I'd see a physician to rule out if you have a potential meniscus tear or any other internal derangement, but if it is isolated PF pain, you may need some physical therapy.
