hi i am a 28yr old male. the fronts of my knees get very hot and i feel blood pumping through them sometimes in an evening. no pain or swelling. i've noticed it specifically when drinking alcohol. should i be concerned? i also kneel a lot in my job!

Knee symptoms: If there's no discoloration, swelling or marked tenderness, I attribute this symptom to knee sensitivity from your occupation. Alcohol does dilate the arteries and these sensitive areas of overuse apparently have increased sensing of increase in blood circulating through the blood vessels in and around the knees.

Could be gout : High uric acid in the system from drinking alcohol can cause gout. It is most common in the big toe joint but the knee can be another area affected.

Reason for pain?: I think the more important question is why is your leg hurting? Drinking alcohol does not cause leg pain. Did you injure it after drinking too much? You need to figure out why the leg is hurting.

Young Joints: I would bet that given you are still in the middle of growing that your joints are very sensitive. You may be out growing your body's ability to keep up with the bones getting longer and all the tissues the joints need for health.  Drinking is very dehydrating and a depressant.  Drinking regular or heavily is not good health for a number of reasons but especially when you are growing.

Coca cola has: a ton of processed sugar and caffeine. The sugar is bad for your husband's waistline which may lead to obesity and could therefore add stress to his knees and back. The caffeine can interfere with sleep and increase his overall stress levels. So coke is unhealthy for him and everyone. There may be other reasons for knee and back pain which should be investigated with your husband's physician.

Not likely: Alcohol should not effect your knee arthritis directly. Alcohol and anti-inflamatory medications can hurt your stomach ( ulcer). "falling down" drunk has never helped anybody's knee. Do not drink to excess.

Knee pain: Knee pain which gets worse on stairs is most likely  due to injury to under surface of your knee cap.  Pt along with  Ibuprofen and glucosamine  / chondroitin  sulfate.  If pain persist , i will recommend MRI scan.

You : You can try taking nsaid's such as advil (ibuprofen) (as long as you can tolerate those medications), ice the area, wear a knee brace, or try physical therapy.

Knee pain in child: Although many people would think growing pains, i would get it xrayed though if causing pain at night.
