Meniscal tear: ice would help,  strengthening your quads and hamstrings will help was well,  gentle stretching too

Depends on dx.: Whether you have to have your knee 're- scoped' depends on your present diagnosis . If you have retorn your meniscus then probably yes. If your knee is hurting because of concomitant knee pathology ( associated arthritic changes) then possibly not... Other treatments may be helpful. Get a precise diagnosis from your surgeon and realistic expectations of prognosis . Best of luck!

Some activity: You do not have to have a specific injury to cause a meniscal tear.
Sometimes the meniscus can degenerate and
tear from repetitive activities such as running
basketball and other pseudotraumatic sports
i would work a lot on strengthening and
plyometrics to help prevent further problems.

i went to a hospital a year back, and was told that i have a knee meniscus tear, from which they did a knee arthroscopy to remove the torn meniscus. i havent been doing any extreme sports, but now the pain is back, and it somewhat feels worse.

: Back to Orthopedic doctor, I’m afraid.  May need repeat repair or injection of any one of several meds into the knee, depending on results of MRI scan.

Unlikely: Except in very young patients with open growth plates (children and adolescents), meniscus injuries rarely heal without intervention. Meniscus tissue has a poor blood supply and thus doesn't have good spontaneous healing potential. Sometimes a meniscus injury ceases to hurt or cause symptoms, but the tissue hasn't actually healed.

Generally: Meniscus tears generally do not heal, because the blood supply to the meniscus is very poor. Root tears are at the very edge of the meniscus and are very difficult to manage. You should see and orthopod facile in arthroscopy. Meniscus tears usually cause swelling and pain.

Meniscus tear: If it is still symptomatic at this point I would see a sports medicine specialist. Till then RICE and NSAIDs.

Not really: An exam from a sports specialist, then an mri, and then an arthroscopic surgery... This is the sequence of detecting meniscal tears with specificity increasing with each one.  I am unaware of anything you could do on your won to correctly make this diagnosis.

Quick fix and more: See an orthopedic surgeon or a physiatrist.  They can evaluate the knee.  If appropriate, they can drain the fluid and that will give you some immediate relief.  Use ice and a compression wrap which will also reduce the pain a bit. Use a cane or crutches so that you take some weight off the affected leg and try to walk without stressing the other leg or your back! But see the Doc, get a diagnosis.
