i tweaked my right knee playing basketball last year and now when i put pressure on it at certain angles, it just gives out. what could this be?

See your doctor...: You may have sprained, or tore a tendon or ligament. Beyond analgesics, rest, ice, compression, & elevation  it is necessary to consult a physician (orthopedic) for a complete evaluation of your knee. You may need imaging studes to fully diagnose the problem.

my right knee grinds. i can't put major downward pressure on it (going down a ladder) as it quickly gives out followed by numbness/pain. why is this?

See a doctor: You don't give enough info for a diagnosis.  Duration and known recent injury would matter.   Your description sounds concerning for meniscus tear.  Other ligament injury or fracture also possible.  These are permanent injuries which will not resolve on their own.  I would stay off it, buy an OTC brace for support, take OTC pain reliever, use ice liberally and see an Orthopedic surgeon.

Possibilities are: Injury or inflammation in the knee ligament, cartilage, patella, tendon and soft tissues around the joint. Your dr can give you an accurate diagnosis. You had all the necessary tests/ imaging studies done. Ask your dr. For reassurance. Take care!

Compartment pressure: Compartment pressure measurements are performed at baseline with follow up measurements after 5 minutes of running. Needle placement is performed in all four compartments --anterior, lateral, posterior and deep posterior regions of the leg. A baseline blood pressure allows one to assure that the pressure measurements can be properly interpreted.

Get evaluation: May be minor injury, or could involve cartilage or ligaments.  First let your primary doctor know about this.  If persistent symptoms, an orthopedic surgeon will need to assess.

Knee pains: can come from a long list of possibilities.  If it persists or if there is instability of your knee, you need to see an orthopedic surgeon who can review your history and perform an exam of the concerning area.  If there is not history of trauma or instability, you could also see a rheumatologist who can evaluate you for other causes of knee pain.
