See below: So rabies is transmitted through saliva, not a scratch. However, it would be very wise of you to get both the cat and puppy (when old enough according to the vet) vaccinated for rabies and maintain that vaccine as recommended (rabies is devastating to them too). The puppy nipping at you is not likely to give you rabies. You don't need to be vaccinated unless you're bit by an unknown animal.

i got imoxi canine for flea and intestinal parasites on my hand when my cat jumped when applying. i immediately washed my hands with soap and water and ran water on my hand. should i be concerned?

: Not particularly. The skin thickness of the hands is greater than other areas and the skin is a great barrier against entry of any toxic material to your bloodstream. Unless you have a specific allergic response or chemical burn from the product the cited exposure is unlikely to cause any problem.

Giardia: The risk of humans acquiring Giardia infection from dogs or cats is small. The exact type of Giardia that infects humans is usually not the same type that infects dogs and cats. The usual pet shots have nothing to do with Giardia.

If it's been years: Usually, a person should get a Tdap booster shot if he hasn't gotten a Tdap shot in the last 10 years. The Tdap shot protects him from Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (whooping cough). If a wound is deeper or contaminated with dirt, the doctor may give a tetanus booster if the patient hasn't had a tetanus booster in the last 5 years.

Hypoallergenic pets: There are no hypoallergenic pets, Animals do vary as much as five hundred fold in some cases in the amount of allergen they produce,  But the allergen is in the skin and saliva, not in the fur, for dogs and cats . Bite Wound Care: Wash the bite area with soap &amp; water; apply pressure with sterile gauze or a clean cloth if the bite is bleeding.  Apply antibiotic ointment &amp; cover the area with a bandage. Offer your child Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen for pain. Seek Medical Care If the bite has broken the skin, is on the face, head, neck, hand, foot, or near a joint, if becomes red, hot, swollen, or more painful, if needs tetanus
