Get an X-rays : If the stones came out and you do not have any more symptoms, get again x-ray  to make sure no stones left. Have the stent taken out.

Kidney stones:  This is an issue that needs to be discussed with your physician who knows your overall picture.  Per  WebMD:  "If it is smaller than 5 mm (1/5 inch), there is a 90% chance it will pass without further intervention. If the stone is between 5 mm and 10 mm, the odds are 50%. "

Spasm and trauma : The ureter may spasm which may hurt.  The urine may be blocked which causes increased pressure in your collecting system and pain.  Or the trauma to your urothelial lining can cause pain.

Difficult to say: In studies on dogs in the past, if a kidney was completely blocked, there was some irreversible damage that stated to occur at 2 weeks. If the obstruction is not 100%, you probably have longer before seeing any permanent effects on the kidney.

See a urologist: Drink lots of water and take Flomax (tamsulosin) to help dilate the ureter. See a urologist if pain is severe, he may require a ureteral stent.

Dangerous: The ureter is blocked by the stone and it is causing back pressure into the kidney. If not relieved, the back pressure will destroy the kidney. You do not have pain because the stone is too big to move. Please see a urologist at your earliest.

Yes: I just examined the body of a guy who neglected a narrowed ureter and died of complications of hydronephrosis. If you need it, get it done. It's not bad.

Pass or obstruct.: A stone in the ureter may pass or it may obstruct the ureter. The likelihood that a stone will pass decreases significantly the larger it is, especially over 5mm. If the stone fails to pass, obstruction of urine can cause the kidney to swell in a process called hydronephrosis. Over time this can lead to increased risk of infection and kidney atrophy. Work with your urologist for options.
