Most people can: Studies have found a low incidence of cephalosporin (of which Keflex is one) allergy among penicillin allergic people.  The rash from amoxicillin is also mediated by immune mechanism other than IgE. Thus your risk for an allergic reaction is likely no higher than someone who has never had an reaction to amoxicillin.

Do not self medicate: You should call a dentist for treatment. Antibiotics do not fix teeth.. Dentists do. The problem will only get worse if you avoid seeking care. Please call for an appointment.

Infected Piercing: you should take what is prescribed for you for that particular infection. You should not have antibiotics left over from another infection or take another's prescription.  This leads to wrong antibiotics or not enough to truly treat the infection. This all leads to antibiotic resistance of bacteria.  Soon we will have no antibiotics to treat infections if these practices continue.  See Doctor!

No to Amoxicillin: You shouldn't take Amoxicillin and there is a 1 in 10 chance that you'll have a reaction to Keflex.  If your allergic reaction to penicillin wasn't severe, (anaphylaxis or other), then it would be reasonable to try Keflex

Allergic reaction : You have about a ten percent chance of it happening with a cephalosporin such as keflex

Get checked again: Return to your provider and request a urine culture with sensitivities to definitively identify the bacteria and to treat it with an appropriate antibiotic. Be sure to take the complete course of antibiotics. Also, you may need a pelvic exam to rule out vaginal infections that may be contributing to your recurrent symptoms. Hope you feel better soon!

No: Most people do not become allergic to antibiotics yet it can develop at any time. Thus there is no way to tell ahead of time whether you may be allergic to an antibiotic or not.

See below: Amoxicillin and Cephalexin have different antibacterial spectra.  If an infecting organism is sensitive to both drugs they will work equally well. But if an infection is due to enterococcus Amoxicillin will usually work while Cephalexin will not.  Conversely if an infection is due to mssa Cephalexin will work while Amoxicillin will not.

Maybe: Amoxicillin is also a drug that many dentists use to treat infections of the mouth. Whether it is a good one for you would depend on your specific circumstances and specific type of infection.
