is it normal to be vomiting from a uti? i was at the er yesterday and have been throwing up since then. er said i have a uti and prescribed keflex.

UTI: Vomiting is not a prominent symptom in an uncomplicated lower urinary tract (bladder) infection but can occur with kidney infections. The keflex or any other medication may be the cause of the vomiting. If vomiting persists discontinue keflex and call your physician for instructions or repeat examination. Don't allow yourself to become dehydrated.

diagnosed w/ double pnue.a week ago. on keflex, promethazine/codeine syrup and albuterol inhaler. still coughing so hard i vomit and pee. help?

Bronchi inflamed : Your pulmonary infection is attracting an inflammatory response, with mucus exudate that you must clear up and out.  The cough is a good reflex.  Still, you are miserable.  Try:  hot showers 3x/day, warm salt gargles hourly, a different cough med (Hycodan)(best rx), Ricola or Halls cough drops, tea hourly, and ask about different antibiotic. Are you wheezing?  Any asthma tendencies? Predisone ?

Change antibiotic: Your vomiting could be due to medication side effects but if you are also having chills it may mean that you may be having pyelonephritis which means the infection has ascended up in the urinary tract into the lower part of the kidneys (especially if you also have fever and flank pain). You need to see your doctor to be rechecked and for a possible change in antibiotics.

is it ok to eat seafood, specifically shrimp & crab meat, when one has a fever? on keflex for almost 48hrs. ate seafood &then shortly after vomited. i'm not allergic to seafood. not sure if the med is working or shouldn't eat seafood during a fever?

Basics: Your digestive system is often slowed during any illness. As such simplicity in your feeding choices can help-Avoiding fatty foods or challenging spices is prudent. I see no reason to exclude seafood for those who want to eat it.

Yes.: But you knew that already--didn't you? Skipping a pill (same as vomiting it up), antibiotic usage, and unprotected sex are all ways that can make you a parent. Even if the odds are low, they are still there. Be careful out there! be on bc that you control; also be aware that unprotected sex can mean std.

No guarantee: GI upset may occur with zithromax.

Maybe.: Keflex might lessen your acne, but that's not what it is for. The best current antibiotics for acne are Doxycycline and minocycline, with a few others used less commonly - but antibiotics are not that effective all by themselves. Let your dermatologist design a comprehensive acne treatment for you, which will probably include an antibiotic and appropriate topical therapies.

is  500mg keflex tid for 10 days a strong dose?

Recommended dose: No, 500mg TID x 10 days is the recommended dose for susceptible infections.  Some clinicians only prescribe it BID or for only 7 days.  Please follow your clinician's recommendation and complete full course.

i never took keflex before. i took amoxicilin before, i'm not allergic to it. is there anyway i can try to see if im allegric before i take full dose?

Accepted Answer

No: Most people do not become allergic to antibiotics yet it can develop at any time. Thus there is no way to tell ahead of time whether you may be allergic to an antibiotic or not.
