: While I use this in infants for constipation, I don't suggest it for adults. Kids don't absorb the majority of the complex sugars, so it works to draw along water.  Adults absorb the sugars, so it is less a benefit &amp; is stored as carbs or fat. Metamucil in its brand or generic form is a better adult/older kid agent. Directions are on the product.

Constipation: First of all quit giving him Karo syrup as there is a risk of infant botulism with this.  Secondly some babies may normally go this long without a BM.  Some go everyday or multiple times a day.  If he is acting well, eating and sleeping well, urinating well and his tummy is soft, then he is fine.  If not go see his pediatrician for an exam and tips for dealing with this.

Yes: It is safe to use this during pregnancy. Also consider Miralax if it is available where you live. Increase your dietary fiber and fluid intake. Should be drinking 80-100 ounces of fluids daily.

Laxatives: Lacsyp is a laxative like lactulose, aristozyme is a digestive enzyme not a laxative. Occasional laxative use may be OK, but it's far better to increase natural fiber in your diet or add soluble fiber to maintain normal and regular bowel movements.

my 8 week old son has constipation and very bad spit up like throw up. the doctor has him on enfamil ar. i also put karo syrup in bottle.

Wt check, water: Have you tried giving him water? I would recommend starting with 1 oz a day and see if it helps with the constipation. As for the spit ups, if he feeds well, is gaining weight, and does not seem in pain, i would not be treating the reflux symptoms with the above formula. If there are any worsening of his symptoms/problems he should be reevaluated immediately.

Hydrate : If all tests and exams point to normal and you're not taking meds that cause constipation, perhaps it might be something simple like the need for HYDRATION.  Many people during the day going about life and forget to drink water or an occasional sports drink.  Coffee, tea an caffeinated beverages don't count. In fact, those are counter-productive.

I wouldn't: The manufacturer does not condone any use in kids under age 10. Stool softening agents like Miralax (US) can be used are available over the counter in many areas. Their gentile action allows them to be used for long periods without side effects.

Some other disease?: Each person with constipation needs to be sure there is no other disease causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, things to try are vegetables, prune juice, prunes, fiber+water, polyethylene glycol, Senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, other laxatives... Make a symptom and "laxatives" diary for the doctor, who might try Linzess or Amitiza.
