i had a uti i just got finished taking macrobid. i'm taking augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) now. my urine smells like ham. i have to go see a urologist. what could this be?

Ham-smelling urine!?: It's impossible to tell what it is based on the info given- regardless,with any UTI,if source control isn't achieved, then no abx will help. This could range from an infected  stone, anatomical issues, retention of urine, physiologic problem (eg. overactive bladder), or a resistant bacteria. Maybe, an alternative diagnosis that mimics a UTI exists- this is why it's wise to go to the urologist

started taking a multivitamin and now my urine smells like buttered popcorn. don't want to stop taking it because it is helping my fatigue. should i be worried?

I : I cannot diagnose the cause for these symptoms. A rotten egg smell is described as being much like the smell of sulphur.  You could have an infection. You could have a diet high in food that contain sulfhur (garlic, curry, onions, meat, eggs, cauliflower, etc.)  you could even have a metabolic disorder.  Because your urine is also cloudy, i recommend that you talk with your doctor about this.

i ve low gfr calculated abbreviatd mdrd [ its 76 now ] and my urine smells very strong and strange since recently,is this sign of mild kidney failure?

See nephrologist: Your eGFR is lower than desired, though not too bad. However, it would be prudent to see a kidney doctor to rule out treatable issues. You should drink more water, drink enough so that your urine is colorless and watery.

UTI and /or BV: Those are only two of the possibilities, so get examined by an MD and find out.

Yes: Many foods have compounds that get filtered in the kidneys. Consequently, some of this may end up in the urine causing it to smell like the food. That is usually of no worry. Asparagus is one example.

Possible UTI: Pain with urination &amp; discomfort sitting down suggests urinary infection. Urine can often have a strange smell without infection as long as you don't have pain with urination. You need to have a urinalysis to rule out infection, which if positive requires antibiotics. Good Luck

Dehydration or Infxn: If your urine is very concentrated, it can have a pungent smell.  Usually this is due to dehydration, but it can also be due to infection.  If you are experiencing burning or other pain with urination, please see your doctor. Otherwise, i recommend drinking plenty of water during the day to dilute your urine.
