my daughter has had a cough for about a month, no other symptoms just a cough. she was sick but has gotten over her cold over a month. is this normal?

Maybe: It is possible to catch another cold while recovering from a previous one especially during this season. There may be no cause for alarm if she has no fever or difficulty breathing or carrying on with normal activity. Should it persist in the next 2 weeks, i recommend seeing a doctor.

already have had my 3 days of full blown symptoms, now i just have the sniffles and a productive wet cough. how long till i'm back to normal from this cold?

7 to 10 days: Most uncomplicated viral respiratory infections last  7 to 10 days.  When a "cold" last longer than 2 weeks or is worsening rather than improving, then the person should be evaluated for possible sinus infection.   Usually the worse symptoms of a cold are on day 3 or 4.

Reflux?: Is it after dinner when you go to bed? Always after you eat? It might reflect gastric reflux. Would suggest trying to better understand the circumstances for your cough. What makes it better?

A number of issues: Chronic cough can be due to lung disease, acid reflux, allergy/sinusitis with post nasal, or even be habitual. One important point is when the cough bothers you. Asthma is associated with colds and exercise.  Night time cough is typical of asthma or reflux. Post nasal drip is frequently worst in the morning. I would recommend a careful evaluation by your primary doctor or a pulmonologist.

Post viral cough: usually appears during an upper respiratory infection (a cold), and then drags on for weeks after other cold symptoms have resolved.   There is no fever, no wheezing, no chest pain (or only slight burning with cough), and little or no mucous production.  It is a cycle of cough-irritation-cough.  The best treatment is cough suppressants so that the airway and throat can heal.

Cough every spring: It seems you have spring time allergies and it comes at the same time pollen count is high, you do not have to be worried.If you want, you can try over the counter allergy meds like claritin, (loratadine) Allegra or zyrtec.It could be mild case of asthma which goes away without treatment.You can discuss with your doctor or see an allergist if you want to be sure.

MAI?: Are you sure this was a physician's diagnosis- mycoplasma avium intracellulare?- were tests or cultures done?- I would suggest clarificiation and medication for symtoms.

Give it time.: You may all have developed reactive airways and would benefit from inhalers but this needs to be evaluated by your health care provider. Either wait it out for a few more weeks or go and get evaluated.

Underactive thyroid: An underactive thyroid can cause a running nose which in turn can cause a post nasal drip with resulting cough. Speak t your doctor about taking thyroid medicine.
