Acid reflux can present as heartburn, sourness in the back of your throat, or even a persistent cough. Either way, both are recommended to be evaluated by your pcp for underlying conditions. Essentially, yes.: Most  people experience heartburn on an infrequent basis. People with Gerd experience it frequently. If you have frequent heartburn,you may need to follow anti-reflux measures and perhaps take medication to keep it under control. Good luck.

Esophageal cancer: yes,  this would be rare -- alcohol is a risk factor for esophageal cancer, as is acid reflux - work to minimize GERD -- small bites, small meals, chew well, drink fluid thru meal; take acid blocker such as omeprazole or ranitidine

Nonspecific symptoms: Without more information it is not possible to narrow down the possibilities.  Maybe it's a virus, maybe it's food poisoning, maybe it's something much more serious. Even pregnancy is a possibility in some circumstances. Please see your doctor if this continues.

does 24 hr ph impedance test identify bile in esophagus or just acid? if only acid, what if you have bile? i have bile in stomach. meds don't work.

Test: Typically the test only identifies acid or not by measuring Ph.  Sounds like you have reflux. Improve your digestion and you can improve your reflux. Consider food allergy testing. This can often lead to positive dietary changes that improve digestion and improvement with reflux symptoms.

how can you tell if you have just acid reflex or an ulcer? what's the different symptoms between them?

Hard to tell: Symptoms can be similar.  Upper endoscopy and xrays can ruleout ulcers.  True reflux is a physical problem and can not be treated with medications.  If you have reflux see a surgeon who performs antirelfux surgery to discuss workup and your options.

Not bile: For you to throw up bile you must be obstructed beyond the point the bile enters the small intestine.If this is happening you need to be in the emergency room now.

i had reflux esophogitis. i was on ppi in am and pepcid in pm. once i start tapering i am told to stop the pepcid first. how do i know the difference between just acid rebound and gerd that is damaging my esophogus again?

: Any symptoms that recur after you begin tapering medications should be reported to your GI doctor who knows you best to determine what is expected and what is more worrisome. You likely won’t be able to tell the difference symptom-wise but your doctor will know which symptoms, especially in terms of degree of discomfort, is safe and expected. Hopefully, you won’t experience any symptom recurrence.

i think that i may have pancreatitis but when i went to the hospital the er doctor said that it was just acid reflux. i don't think so. what now?

Why do you: Think you have pancreatitis?Why do you not believe what the ER doctor told you?Did the ER do any testing, blood work, etc? If your blood work was negative , then you don't have it.  If you had no testing to confirm or deny, go see another doctor and find out.  But frankly, I haven't seen a teenager with pancreatitis that wasn't deathly ill and in need of hospitalization.
