how can you tell if you have just acid reflex or an ulcer? what's the different symptoms between them?

Hard to tell: Symptoms can be similar. Upper endoscopy and xrays can ruleout ulcers. True reflux is a physical problem and can not be treated with medications. If you have reflux see a surgeon who performs antirelfux surgery to discuss workup and your options.
