Several causes: The ear fullness is either referred from the maxillary sinuses, inflammation of the nasopharynx from the drainage or infection, or swelling of the eustachian tubes.  The headache is either from transient blood pressure increases during the cough causing swelling of the sinus linings or temporary distension of the veins inside the skull which are very sensitive (cough headache).

i have chronic sinusitis (opacified sinuses).  i started sinus rinse but have ear pain, shooting pains in my head,  and vertigo after rinse. continue?

Accepted Answer

No: Occasionally sinus rinses will force bacteria or fungus into other areas including the brain. They are not recommended. Gentle saline spray may help or topical steroids. The sinuses can be difficult to treat and sometimes require drainage. Ask for an ENT opinion.

Pain: It is possible but there could be other causes. Consult a dentist who will be able to examine you and get XRs. All the best.

Contact DDS: If the dentist reviewed your radiographs and did a clinical examination, was TMJ addressed? If TMJ symptoms are relevant the dentist may treat you by making a nightguard that would separate your teeth, to lessen grinding if evident. Otherwise, you may be referred to your MD for an evaluation.

Sinusitis: While the causes are numerous what pops in my head is a sinus infection  or migraine hehadaches, see your doctor for proper evaluation and treatment.

Yes, Congestion can: Prevent one ear from draining w ^pressure. Cold tips: for sore throat – gargle with warm salt water (1/2 tsp salt in 8 oz of water). * for congestion – saline nose drops or a neti pot. *for anti-inflammatory effect ; mobilizing mucus- homemade chicken noodle soup.**for hydration- lots of water. Try clear broth. * add honey ; a small amt. Of lemon juice to chamomile tea.
