T bilirubin, AST....: Liver tests typically include:
AST/ALT (detect liver damage)
INR/PT/PTT (coagulation tests, detect indirectly liver function)
Also a hepatitis panel is often ordered to make sure Hep B,C are not present.
total bilirubin is the main test that is done for evaluating jaundice

imaging that is done often is an ultrasound to detect the size/consistency of the liver itself

Bilirubin: Jaundice is caused by an excess of bilirubin in the blood. Blood can be tested to see how high the bilirubin is. Blood type is important as is the hemoglobin and hematocrit.

Yes: Hepatitis A does not become chronic.  Once infected, you should be immune.  You should have no problem going abroad.

Depends on situation: You will need to sort out the origin of the jaundice. If it is all direct reacting, it falls into a group that includes infection, hepatitis, biliary atresia, metabolic disorders (galactosemia), & genetic syndromes. Once your treatment team discovers the issue, the ease of treatment or danger can be understood.

Ok if baby is normal: Many normal babies between the ages of 4 and 14 days have a bilirubin level of 15. As long as the baby is normal (as assessed by one's pediatrician), that bilirubin level should not be a problem. For example, such a baby might have jaundice and a bilirubin lab test result of 8 at age 2 days, 12 at age 3 days, 16 at age 4 days, 18 at age 5 days, 15 at age 7 days, 10 at age 14 days, 5 at 21 days.

Age of the patient+detailed medical history determine choice of supporting lab tests.  Eg, . Bilirubin levels, blood type, hepatitis and liver function testing as well gallbladder imaging studies.

No: Jaundice is due to elevated bilirubin. If you are still yellow, it is not jaundice. Do you eat lot of carrots or other yellow veggies . Absence of yellow pigment in the sclerae &amp; oral cavities distinguishes carotenemia from jaundice. Diabetes, hypothyroidism and kiney diseases maybe associated with carotenemia but not caused by carotene ingestion.

Jaundice: Yellow discoloration of the skin and eyes is a consequence of elevation in the blood of a substance called bilirubin. It can increase due to blocked bile ducts from gallstones, strictures, infection, tumor. Jaundice can also occur from liver infection like hepatitis, or other liver diseases that destroy the liver cells. Tumors of the liver, bile system, or pancreas can also raise the bilirubin.
