Maybe not: Central low back pain is most often due to inflammation/arthritis of the disk/joints in the spine or inflammation/injury the soft tissues (muscles/tendons) .  Occasionally, lumbar nerve root compression can begin as midline pain but this is certainly not the most likely cause.

It : It sounds like you have a pinched nerve root in your back. This may be due to a herniated disc. I usually treat with oral steroids. Sometimes a medication called Neurontin (gabapentin) helps with burning pain. You should have an MRI if symptoms persist or if you have weakness or bowel/bladder problems.   It usually resolves without an operation but surgery to decompress the nerve may be needed.

Back pain: In most cases, a pinched nerve will cause pain that radiates into an extremity.  If your pain is isolated to your back then it is unlikely to be a pinched nerve.  Back pain is a nonspecific complaint which could be caused by any number of things such as degenerative disc, sprain, etc.  Most back pain resolves on its own within a short period, so if your pain is persistent then see a physician.

Disc disease: This could possibly (among other possibilities) represent a bulging disc.  Discs most commonly bulge postero-laterally (back and to the right or left).  Bending forward will tend to cause the vertebral bodies above and below to sort of "squish" the disc thereby aggravating the bulge.  This could increase the degree of stenosis (narrowing) in certain areas allowing for nerve impingement.

Numb leg: Yes! sharp pain in a lower extremity due to nerve compression can cause this. Relieve by squatting down to flex the lumbar spine. Usually, anti-inflammatory medications can help, as well as some core strengthening with a flexion-based exercise program. Make sure nothing else is the cause of the leg pain! see a doctor and maybe have a scan performed.  U need a diagnosis!

low back pain: Bending backwards does compress the lumosacral area and sacro iliac joints. If it hurts do not do it.

Back pain: Often times, conservative treatment such as physical therapy (including strengthening and stretching) and anti-inflammatory medications will work.  It would also be reasonable to try massage, ice or heat, or over the counter creams such as aspercreme or capsaicin creme.  See a physician if your symptoms do not improve - further treatment options would include spinal injections and even surgery.

Pinched nerve: With such limited information, one can only talk in generalities. Most back difficulties resolve on their own in six to twelve weeks. For persistent symptoms, seek the consult of a spine specialist.

Herniated disc: While your symptoms are suggestive of herniated disc, you are a little young for such a degenerative process. It may just be a lower back muscle spasm due to excessive use. In either case, try Ibuprofen 400 mgs (2 ADVIL (ibuprofen) tabs) 2-3 times daily for a wk and a heating pad to local areafew times daily. If no improvement, see your doctor for a definitive assassment. Feel better soon:)
