i have tried many things to try and get rid of my plantar fasciitis. icing my feet, custom orthotics, wearing a stretch sock at night, stretching during the day, physical therapy, cortisone shots, and a walking boot. should i consider surgery?

Fasciitis :  Have you tried an anti inflammatory. If not try Ibuprofen 400 MG twice a day with food for ten days

If not willing to-: accept the risks, you need do nothing, but your symptoms will not get better. repeated steroid injections will cause damage to the joint surfaces. it's a great drug, but a double edged sword, beware!

Accepted Answer

Try one more,: if no long term effect next is surgery. I always used injections as a temporizing treatment, to allow a more suitable time for the patient to prepare work schedules and so forth. if they happened to get long term relief, then no surgery until injections don't work after 1 or 2.

Meniscus tear: If it is primarily arthritis, synovitis, and just a degenerative fraying of theme miscues, the cortisone may help the surrounding inflammation. If a truly large tear with mechanical symptoms, get a scope.

It depends...: The choice in selecting cortisone versus surgery for back pain depends on the cause of back pain. Inflammation is best treated with anti-inflammatories, such as cortison while mechanical derangements may need surgery.

can a herniated disk heal itself after 3 cortisone shots without surgery?

Accepted Answer

Maybe: Cortisone injections (why 3?...There is no standard to do 3 shots.) can help the inflammatory process of the nerve roots irritated by the disc hernitaion.  These injections do not "heal" the disc, but can cause accelerated pain relief.  Disc herniations occasionally resorb (disintegrate) over time, but there is no guarantee that a disc is healed once the pain is gone, even from injection therapy.

i am still have terrible pain 2 yrs after tkr surgery, should i get cortisone injections?

Accepted Answer

No: Severe pain 2 years after total knee replacement is rare.  Cortisone injections are helpful in the native knee and are almost always contraindicated in knee replacements.  There are dozens of potential causes of your pain.  Sometimes it is obvious why there is pain and other times it is extremely difficult. Consult your surgeon, or seek a second opinion regarding the source of the pain.

see details: Arthroscopic surgery with correction of the impingement. One can try physical therapy but a significant impingement will likely not respond to pt.

Not necessarily: All depends on your age, level of function, and how much it is disrupting your life and daily activities. Discuss all of these things with your primary Dr and/or orthopedic surgeon to determine the best next step for you.

i need dequervain's surgery. is it safe to have 6 weeks after having a cortisone injection in that same spot?

Surgery post cortiso: A single cortisone injection is unlikely to cause a postop problem like infection or tendon rupture in the non weight bearing upper extremities
