The very first one: Most medical guidelines recommend penicillin as the first line agent to treat strep throat.  However, i feel that Amoxicillin ( a derivative of penicillin) is more often prescribed simply because it is more tolerable/less side effects.  This is debatable.  It is important to treat strep pharyngitis as it can cause an array of medical problems down the line in the form of rhematic fever.

Penicillin still #1: Despite being the oldest antibiotic, it is still the medicine of choice for treating strep throat infection. It is not 100%, but still the "standard of care." it is sometime not used because of penicillin allergies or because of younger age (adolescent/teen-more difficult with schedule--school/sports etc) due to required frequency of use --4x/day for 10 days..

Strep Throat: strep throat is rarely resistant to antibiotics. In case of resistant, high dose amoxil or augmentin, (amoxicillin and clavulanate) based on 90mg/kg/day can help to over come the resistant strain

It will work: Zinnat, Cefuroxime is effective against the Streptococcus that causes sore throat. 
Quite often Strep throat doesn't need antibiotics. If it does, Penicillin V is also effective in doses of 250-500mgs four times a day. It is probably the only indication left for oral penicillin .

Not one I would use: This class of drugs have a broad range of effects against many types of germs but i find no listing for strep throat..It is not used in kids and rarely used in most simple infections. Since strep is universally sensitive to the penicillins, and other inexpensive medications, it is one i would never use for strep throat.

Keflex: First, be sure you are really (or still) allergic to penicillin.  Second, make sure you really have strep throat (some people have strep in their throat all the time!).  Then your doctor can choose from several different cephalosporins.  The cheapest one is the generic form of keflex.  Zithromax is a distant third choice because rarely the bacteria are resistant.

Yes: Taking ? Amoxicillin twice daily is the recommended interval, based on its metabolism. Taking it three times a day will not hurt but is not necessary. All the best.

Strep throat : What do you mean exactly?   Did you take an antibiotic specifically prescribed to treat your strep?    Not all antibiotics work well against strep.
