what is the best way to care for an itchy, irritating tick bite?

Depends: Anti-itch medicines couch as benedryl can help but you need to watch for other symptoms as well like rashes around the bite, signs of  secondary infection and other symptoms of tick-borne illness.  If you are concerned, see you primary doctor.

tick bite- turned black and itchy (5 days old). i pulled the tick out all the way, and there are no other symptoms or discoloration. cause 4 concern?

Tick bite: Yes, with all the tick-borne diseases possible. Best to have it looked at and consider prophylactic antibiotics, especially if acquired in a high prevalence Lyme's disease area or Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever area. Please have a doctor look at it. MRSA is also a possibility.

Accepted Answer

Local reaction tx: Insect bites should be washed with soap and water. An ice or cold pack may help reduce local swelling. Topical creams, gels and lotions such as those containing calamine or pramoxine decrease itching. Avoid topical anesthetic and antihistamine preparations.

i am experiencing  tick bite. the bite has a red swollen line that is welt up and very itchy. ?

Accepted Answer

Sounds like: it is infected PLUS Tick bites may be the first indication for LYME infection...Antibiotics may be needed. Suggest you consult with your Family or Primary Care Provider.
A simple blood test is helpful so a "hands on" consultation is suggested!

i have had a large (3" diameter) itchy purple bruise develop around a tick bite within 24 hours. should i be worried about lyme?

No,you are having an: allergic reaction to the ticks saliva. Put hydrocortisone cream on it. It should get better in next few days. If it does not,see your Dr. If the tick was not attached for 24 hrs, little chance of lyme disease.

Tick borne illnesses: include many things besides just Lyme. However, most often, a local reaction to a tick bite is simply 
 inflammation; an expanding, red area of tenderness can be cellulitis (a skin infection, often caused by staph bacteria). If it is worsening or you develop a fever, please seek medical attention for proper evaluation and treatment.

Get evaluated: Although it may be a tick bite. You should see a dermatologist to make sure it is not a type of psoriasis. A diagnosis is warranted.

about two months ago i got a tick bite between my toes. it still has flareups of itchiness at random intervals (days to weeks between). it turns red when scratched, but there is no rash or other known symptoms. could it be scarred tissue?

Just a thought: but the area between the toes COLLECTS DIRT like a MAGNET...clean the area daily with a soft Q TIP (Cotton swab) You may want to also swab withan OTC (Over the Counter) cortisone cream! Try this for a week-10 days ..if this does not resolve your problem you need a "hand on" examination ....start with your PCP or Family Physician!

Dose look like this : Picture?
If it look like the picture, most likely is a tick bite.
Wash it with anti-septic. If you son developed any fever or joint pain or flu like symptoms call the doctor and check it out.

i have a tick bite 6 months old, it still goes through periods of intense itchiness. it developed scar tissue under my skin. cause for concern?

See below: If you we're treated appropriately for a suspected tick- borne illness, then the tick illness should be gone, but, you may have developed an are of hypersensitivity at the bite and the more you scratch, the worse it may become.  The skin may be becoming lichenified or simply scarred as you you described.  See you doctor for an evaluation as "rashes" are very difficult to diagnose without viewing.
