: Keratosis pilaris (KP) is usually asymptomatic. However, it is often seen in association with atopic dermatitis so itching may be present. Excessive dry skin (xerosis) may exacerbate KP and itching is also common in xerosis. KP is thought to be a genetic disorder of keratinization that results in the formation of horny plugs in the hair follicle orifices so clogged follicles do not cause itch.

Yes, sometimes: Keratosis pilaris is the accentuated hair follicles and are small raised and frequently red.  Sometimes they itch, but many times there is no itching.  Treatment really depends on the itching.  The usual locations is on the upper outer arms and thighs.

Alpha hydroxy acids: Try gentle exfoliation with a non-scratchy granule-containing body wash.  Apply body lotion that contains alpha hydroxy acids to smooth the skin.

my almost three year old has developed very small, flesh colored bumps all over his back.  look a lot like keratosis pilaris which he has on his arms and thighs like myself, but some of these bumps are clustered, others are not.  not itchy. not red.

i did skin test but still concerned i have 2 slight raised moles! does melanoma be like that? or more like keratosis? its not itchy ive noticed a year ago been using self tan spray does it affect the color?cause the color is more obvious now?

: By doing a skin test, do you mean you had a checkup by a dermatologist? If so, be reassured that those moles were not melanomas. Get a skin check up every 6 months or if you observe a change in existing moles or other skin lesions. Although all the melanomas I've seen were flat, they can be raised.

dermatology: i went in to get a diagnosis of lichen planus - keratosis that was size of a nickel. never had this before. not itchy; skin toned. do i have cancer/melanoma? live in florida and no longer sun bath for 4 years now. dr. froze the spot?

You need a good MD: for good history and physical examination, and sorting out what would be the cause(s) for your symptoms. I am not aware of latent jaundice, and whether it would lead to keratosis pilaris, a skin condition unrelated to the liver. Itchiness: There are many ways to manage itchiness, from topical creams to oral medications.  The best way to manage itchiness (pruritis) is to treat the actual cause.  I recommend seeing your doctor to establish a likely treatable diagnosis.
