We really are physicians here concerned about your health.  To most people asking them to not drink on the surgery day is easy.

Would you pour a scotch or bourbon over the wound and think it would have no affect?

Yes: Drinking of alcohol has a small effect on your blood clotting ability.  Alcohol and pain medication(narcotics) should not be taken at the same time.  Alcohol may influence any pre-medication or sedation given before and during the surgery.  Therefore, it is best to wait for a few days and till after you are off any pain meds.

Depends: Did the dentist that extracted your tooth place you on any medicine?  Were antibiotics involved?  Was the extraction difficult?  Was there more bleeding during the procedure than normal?  Are you taking any other medications?  If none of those pertain to you, 3-4 days is the absolute minimum time you must abstain.  If any of the above apply, it may be much longer.
