Hello. : Hello. First congratulations on your pregnancy. Second, I am really glad that your doctor is tapering you off of xanax (alprazolam).  It is fda pregnancy category d. This means it should be avoided during pregnancy.  There are other medications that can be used during pregnancy for anxiety that would be much safer. I don't know if use of xanax (alprazolam) has  had any impact on your baby. However, by tapering off of it, your can  prevent your baby from being born with an addiction with potentional for withdrawal after birth.  Take care.

You should avoid activities that require mental alertness and motor coordination (like driving a car) while taking both medications. Possible Taper: I'm guessing that you take xanax (alprazolam)  for anxiety. If you are only taking it once a day, withdrawal is unlikely given it's effects are a short couple hours. If you are taking it more than 2 x's a day then you may be having wd sx's.Generally a taper is by 0.25 to 0.5 mg a day for 1-2 weeks, then lower by the same amt every 1-2weeks until off the xanax (alprazolam). Please talk to your practioner for other options.
