Benzodiazepine: Xanax (alprazolam) is a benzodiazepine that has a fairly short half-life.  This can increase the risk of addiction to the medication.  There are other benzodiazepines with longer half-lives.  I like those better, if I have to use a benzodiazepine with a patient.  There are risks with this medication that includes addiction , dependence, some have some constipation, over-sedation, and respiratory suppression.

No: Although there may be very rare case reports, I have never seen liver difficulties from xanax (alprazolam) in 30 years of practice.

They can be: Or they can be very helpful for the right people.  Xanax (alprazolam) is a very rapidly absorbed, but short-acting tranquilizer, which makes it more abuse-prone, and some psychiatrists think it should be off the market, in favor of more slowly absorbed and longer-acting medications, such as clonazepam. Anxiety can be treated with psychological therapies and with antidepressants that are not addiction-prone.

Withdrawal from xanax (alprazolam) (; other benzodiazepams) can be very difficult, causing insomnia ; anxiety, so it is wise to do your best to not run out of them. Because these drugs act on the same receptor as alcohol, having a drink or 2 of alcohol is the closest over-the-counter substitute to reduce withdrawal until you can get more.

my sister is having seziures and i think its from her medication. she is taking xanax (alprazolam) and at night melatonin could the two be a bad combination?

See a doctor: If your sister is having seizures, she should see a doctor immediately so that a diagnosis can be made and treatment prescribed. Withdrawal from large doses of Xanax (alprazolam) can cause seizures, so if she is taking a large dose and suddenly stops it she might have seizures. Otherwise it is unlikely that either Xanax (alprazolam) or melatonin would cause seizures.

Please consider seeing a psychiatrist, and psychotherapy also.

i'm on xanax (alprazolam) 0.25mg for anxiety and i can take a whole one if needed.  a half doesn't help on bad days. i'm afraid a whole one will put me in coma.
