No solid studies: That I am aware of showing such benefits. Vit D is known to have beneficial general effects on immunity, but regular individuals are expected to get their necessary supply from a balanced diet and having enough sun exposure.

the role of vitamin D supplementation is quite controversial and based on abundant research it seems to do little for just about everything
to my knowledge there is little reason to think it could help with your periods.
Supplementation is generally thought to be safe, but some studies in the  elderly suggest it may lead to more falls!

It is more likely: that untreated low vitamin D levels might affect the menstrual cycle.  That said, in my experience, the menstrual cycle is a very sensitive barometer of changes that are going on in the body and I wouldn't be comfortable saying that excess vitamin D couldn't affect the menstrual cycle. Whether missed or irregular?  Doesn't really matter...if irregular enough, say 45 days+, it seems missed.

50,000: Very high doses of vitamin D are used weekly for four weeks followed up by 1000 to 5000 units daily for a few more weeks. 
More importantly, it is uncommon for a woman your age to  need so much vitamin D. Has your doctor told you why you need so much vitamin D? I would like to learn his/her answers.

whenever i go out to the sun, even if it is only for a short period, i get really bad sunburn as if i had exposed myself for quite a long time. what could be causing this?  i am not taking any medications or supplements except vitamin d?

For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.

Not necessarily: Normal, but not likely related to vitamin supplementation.  It's more likely related to some independent hormonal variation.

50000: If you have a doctor prescribing 50000 units a week it is time to find a doctor who knows how to help.
500-1000 units (preferably 500) a day is just fine!
