Not really: The evidence behind most cough medications, other than narcotics, is not very good. We often prescribe a number of cough medicines without expecting much in return. May want to consider home remedies (like decaf tea with honey); they are just as likely to work as the over the counter medications, without the potential side effects.

Bloody noses: Bloody noses are very common in children, especially during times of illness.The mucus in the nasal/sinus passage ways can be irritating and the membranes in the inside of the nose are easily damaged, thus the source of the bloody nose. Petroleum jelly placed on the inside of each nostril 1-2x daily and frequent use of saline nasal mist to aide in thinning mucus secretions would be recommended.

my 8 year old and 6 year old woke up yesterday with a bad cough, i've been giving them cough medication, allergex and they are wearing the face masks in the house. please advise how can i get them tested for covid19?

Observe: Testing only needed if severe symptoms. Recommendation for children without underlying medical conditions or without shortness of breath is to observe, drink plenty of fluids, and treat fevers with fever-reducing medication if uncomfortable from the fever. Call their doctor for any worsening symptoms and they should stay home, as should you except as absolutely necessary. Wash hands!

Allergic symptoms : Cough and clear nasal discharge are often associated with allergic reactions. An antihistamine for children may relieve symptoms. Nasal saline rinses for nasal symptoms are also advised.
Over the counter cough preparations may help, but generally not very effective in this age group.

Maybe: If your child is taking the gravol as a daily medication for continued nausea or vomiting or when he is traveling if occasion for travel and you are not on daily may take cough med however if daily then if cough med has no antihistamine it should not affect him.

Depends: There are so many different types of cough and cold medications it is impossible without knowing which specific one you are referring to.  Most of these medications are no longer recommended for young children because of their side effects.  Nasal saline spray is a good starting point.

No: Over the counter cold medications have no proven benefit in well controlled studies, and can cause serious problems, especially in children.  In fact, it is now finally recognized generally that taking these meds in kids under 2 is a very bad idea (although deaths in infants from them have been reported for 30 years). Cough : Cough can be tough since there aren't really any good cough suppressant medications available.  Since she is 12, you could safely try an over the counter cough medicine, but i listed below how i treat a cough in my house.  There are a few things you can do to treat a cough caused by an upper respiratory virus. 
 
- drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated 
- hot tea with honey and lemon 
- or just a spoon-full of honey - honey has been shown to be as effective a cough suppressant as many over the counter medications 
- inhale steam from a shower or cool mist from a vaporizer 
- Acetaminophen and/or Ibuprofen can help with inflammation and throat pain

cough from a cold virus should improve after a week to 10 days. If it does not, of if she gets worse or has any difficulty breathing, call her doctor.

Croup: Try cold air or hanging in a warm steamy bathroom first.  If that bad needs evaluation to see if needs a steroid.
