No such thing: There's no such thing as a "pneumonia virus."  there are a variety of bacteria and viruses than can cause pneumonia.

A number of viruses: Rsv (respiratory syncytial virus), influenza, adenovirus, and  metapneumovirus are the frequent causes of viral pneumonia especially in children.

Better late....: Better late than never.  Discuss with the pediatrician as other vaccines are due at 6 months.  Rota virus and pneumococcal are usually given at 2 4 and 6 months.  Might be playing catch up for a little.

found out 3 yo has bacterial pneumonia today. thought it was virus for 5 days. is that long enough to go untreated to turn septic?  i'm very worried

If not treated: A bacterial infection can very quickly cause sepsis if not identified quickly and treated.  If your child is alert and eating fairly well and is peeing and pooping normally the chances are low. If your child becomes sleepy or more restless than usual, needs to seen right away.

Uti/pneumonia/absces: There's really no way to help you without more info. There are many possibilities. He could have a lung abscess or pus around the lungs (empyema) due to the pneumonia. He could have a UTI from a catheter. He could have an infection at an IV site. After 6 weeks, he could have a bedsore. You need to talk to his docs.

COVID-19?: It sounds like your mom is in good hands. If she has COVID, they will know how to treat it. If the pneumonia is beleived to be bacterial, they will treat with antibiotics. There is no proved effective treatment for coronavirus itself. Ask her doctors if she is a candidate for remdesivir -- not proved effective but sometimes available on a "compassionate" basis for severely ill patients. Good luck.

One sign: On treatment for bacterial pneumonia, fever will usually decline within 2 days.  A follow up chest image may be indicated. Sometimes there is slow resolution of a pneumonia, particularly with underlying medical conditions. The test results should be back soon.

Walking : Walking pneumonia can mean several different things. In general, it is a lung infection that is less serious than some types of pneumonia. Whether this is just a milder case of normal bacterial pneumonia or is cause by an atypical bacteria such as mycoplasma or chlamydia is not always certain. Viruses can also cause pneumonia. Sometimes these infections are mild, sometimes very severe causing death. So walking pneumonia is a general term that describes a less severe infection, regardless of cause. It allows you to walk around, rather than confining you to bed.
