Unrelated: There is no STD that causes such symptoms. Their onset after unprotected sex was a coincidence. Your IBS and other symptoms have nothing to do with that event.

Possibly: It is possible that cyano-cobalamine might be the cause of symptoms since it releases cyanide but methylcobalamine the preferred form, should not cause side effects. If stopping the b-12 supplement gets rid of your symptoms that would be evidence that the supplement is the culprit. Possibly you need other b vitamins for b-12 to work properly like methyl folate (folic acid) and b-6.  Look at your life style.

what is water retention, what causes it and how can i get rid of it or reduce the symptoms? i am on the depo provera injection and i drink about 2 litres of warm water everyday. i am also suffering from rapid weight gain i can't lose.

You likely: have insulin resistance/carbohydrate sensitivity, causing the weight gain and fluid retention. This can lead to diabetes.  Depo-provera can make this worse. You need to be tested for insulin resistance, with a 3 hr glucose tolerance test, and insulin levels. Talk to your doctor or specialist in Diabetes/endocrinology.

Hormones?: It sounds cliche but in your wife her hormones definitely seem out of kilter.  Of course, what's causing that is another question.  She really could use a good physical examination followed by appropriate lab and/or diagnostic testing.

No relationship: Taking Ativan (lorazepam) "every once in a while" has no effect on one's weight. That means one's weight can go up or down, but will not be due to taking Ativan (lorazepam) once in a while.

First thing first : You have to have  your thyroid levels monitored and under control. Dose adjusted accordingly otherwise everything you do to lose weight will disappoint you. Encourage you to keep your appointments with your physician or specialist. Some people do suffer from diabetes along with hypothyroidism . So get checked.
