Today is fine : Home pregnancy tests are very accurate. They are the same tests used in a doctors office. They can detect a pregnancy 7-10 days after conception. The best time to take one is when you miss your period.  If you doubt the result you can repeat it in 1-2 days. If you were pregnant the hormone level would rise enough for detection.

2 weeks: Irregular periods can make it hard to determine.  But generally i would suggest to test again in about 2 weeks.  If you are really pregnant then it should be positive by that time.

Pregnancy Test: if you are asking does a particular test become less reliant if you wait past the appointed time to look at the result, then yes.  Test results must be read at the appointed time.  Otherwise, the result is useless.

Do: Did you have unprotected sex? Did you miss a period? If yes to both, it would be useful to re do the test in 4-5 days. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully.
If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time, every time. You may consider implanted contraceptive, or IUD. 
Practice safe sex. 
Get HPV vaccine.

Any time: There is no latest for doing a pregnancy test but there are too late for some of the responses to the results and there is a point at which pregnancy becomes so obvious that it is unnecessary. Hope this helps.

Wait a week: It may be prudent to wait a several days for a retest as the accuracy of a urine pregnancy test will increase the further out from the last menstrual period.

Depends...: It is important to follow the label directions, interpreting the test after the recommended time. Do not take it apart. As the test begins to dry out, a line can form, causing a false positive result (in other words, you would appear to be pregnant when you are not). Repeat the test . Consider using one of the more specific tests that gives a result that is more than just a line. Take care.

i am 2 days late and am never late, very tired but no other symptoms, pregnancy test was negative. should i wait and take another test or just go in?

Both appropriate: It may just be that you are pregnant, but the test wasn't sensitive enough.  Most urine tests are positive at levels of 15-25 depending on name brand.  Blood is positive at 5miu/ml.  In addition you may not have ovulated this month.
