: You can take most analgesics (narcotic or non-narcotic) with prednisone except in some specific conditions. Eg. taking a NSAID such as ibuprofen or naproxen along with prednisone can increase the risk of stomach ulcer. Or if you take prednisone for kidney problem, NSAID is absolutely contraindicated. If you take prednisone for allergy or pulmonary problem, you can take most types of pain killers.

See rheumatologist: There are other drugs other than Prednisone which may be effective for your condition. As long as you are on Prednisone (high doses), it is unlikely that you can combat the weight issue. See a rheumatologist.

So to your question, a high protein diet may be the best choice when your pancreatitis is active.

Prednisone: Some autoimmune disorders, like polymyalgia rheumatica, respond to small doses of prednisone, like 5mgs a day, but others, like lupus, require much larger daily doses. Consult a rheumatologist for a definitive diagnosis and get treatment options from such a specialist.

Some common side effects of this medication include: mood swings, trouble sleeping, irritation of the stomach, weight gain, gastrointestinal intolerance, and increased blood sugars (if diabetic). If you only took one dose symptoms should resolve within a few hours.

May be: It depends on why the hematocrit was low in the first place, certain autoimmune attacks of blood cells can be mitigated by corticosteroids. Adrenal crisis: The most serious, and potentially life threatening, is adrenal insufficiency. This can occur when you have taken steroids for a prolonged period of time (usually greater than 3 weeks) and then you abruptly stop them. The way to stop steroids in this case is to gradually decrease the dose slowly (taper). Other problems can be a flare of whatever disease you were treating with the steroids initially.
