Don't loose sleep: A single application  of this in a kid is not going to hurt her. These products work by strangling the sensitive capillaries in the nose to shrink the swelling. An occasional use in a kid is likely fine but I wouldn't use it on a regular basis. I wouldn't use it in an older kid or adult for more than 3 days without a 1 week rest.

my 5 month old baby has made a poo with a streak of fresh blood in it yesterday. today his poo has a small speck of fresh blood in it. he is an exclusively breastfed baby. at the moment i am taking medication for a head cold (brufen, otrivin nasal)?

Depends: Strings of bright red blood attached to the outside of a hard or bulky stool suggest a scratch/tear in the outlet from a bulky or hard stool. If it is blobs of blood mixed within the stool it suggests a germ like salmonella/shigella  may be the cause of an infectious process. An exam and testing may be needed to sort that out.

Do not use: Do not use Otrivin pediatric nasal drops in children under 6 yr of age. Instead use normal saline drops 1-2 drops to each nostril every 3-4 hours to loosen secretions. You can remove excess secretions using a soft nasal bulb syringe.

Friends advice: Firstly you followed a non-physicians advice - this is wrong. Secondly grinding and snorting the medication means you are tampering and possibly using the medication in an inappropriate manner. You will be regarded as a high risk patient for misuse, abuse and diversion. Behave yourself - see a doctor and use meds appropriately.

our 6 month old child has been prescribed prednisolone cortisone(1.5ml per day) to be taken 7 days. but she only had her measles vaccine 4 days ago! we see it's a contraindication on google, should we avoid giving the cortisone?

No: Given the fact that  she received measles vaccine 4 days prior and the low dose of prednisolone, the efficacy of measles vaccine is not expected significantly affected.  I speculate  you are having measles outbreak in your locale since measles vaccine was given to an infant under 1 year old.  She'll get a regular measles vaccination at 1 year of age.

is it ok for a 6 month old to accidentally get direct sun in her eyes? i took my child out of her pram and she took a direct glance at the sun. she closed her eyes quickly and turned her head right away. would this incident do any harm to her eyes?

: There was a protective response from your baby; and I know you have had similar response to bright lights before. She is unlikely to have had any damage from that exposure; and she normaly would have periodic examination by a pediatrician to make sure that she has normal development.

Stay in the shade: A 6 month old baby is still young, and will get sunburned quite easily. Keeping the baby in the shade is the safest thing to do. If using sunblock, the zinc oxide and titanium oxide ingredients are physical sunblocks (not chemical sunblocks), and stay on the surface of the skin, usually without any skin reactions. A shady place, a hat, and clothing are more protective than sunscreen.

Depends: Simple plagiocephaly self recovers when the kid begins to spend more time upright. It is the natural result of reclining on their back to sleep/play with weight of their face/head &amp; open skull sutures allowing the change. Remove the weight/gravity &amp; the head resumes its more rounded shape. There are helmets that speed the process but these are seldom worth the effort.

See a Dr: Acute swelling in the face/head of a baby requires a thorough exam by a pediatrician. The cause is usually allergic or infectious. Treatment will be determined by the Dr's findings on exam, tests, imaging or other data. Because your baby is so young it is important that you see the Dr today, in case there is a serious problem.

No general rx: Appetite in a kid usually represents their state of health &amp; pattern of growth. There is no "stimulant" advised at this age. Some growth happens in spurts &amp; their feeding follows the peaks &amp; lows of the rate. If you feel she is to slow gaining weight have her evaluated to see if there is a medical problem.
