i took virtussin approximately 3 hrs ago and it has not helped my cough.   i'm considering taking nyquil but need to know when it would be safe to do ?

At least 6 hours: Interval is needed to clear the codeine in Virtussin from your system, if not 8 hours. Nyquil contains an antihistaminic which would interact with the codeine. Moreover, codeine at times can cause spasm of the airways causing more cough, that's why it didn't help to start with, if you are really suffering call your doctor or go to urgent care for management, good luck

Up to 6 hours averag: It causes up to 6 hours of sleep on average, but beware that some people are more sensitive to the sedating properties andalusia sleep longer. Dinky drive or operate machinery unless you are wide awake.

can nyquil make you forgetful ? feel out of it ? i've been taking nyquil for a cough and lately i just feel so lost and out of it could this be why

Yes: Nyquil contains multiple ingredient in each capsule including one called Doxylamine which is an anti-histamine type medication &amp;#40;similar class as Benadryl&amp;#41;. It is a first generation anti-histamine and therefore crosses the blood brain barrier and is known to cause sedation and &quot;brain fog&quot; after taking it and even after waking up in the morning.

Not a good idea: There are several versions of nyquil and most if not all of them contain cough medicine.  Taking another cough syrup would probably give you too much dextromethorophan.

You should be ok: Be on the safe side and take the medicines at least 30 minutes apart.

No: Codeine containing preparation and any Nyquil isn't recommended, combination would cause CNS depression. Cough can be due to multitude of causes, codeine itself can paradoxically cause cough. Kindly call/see your doctor, best wishes

: There is a wide range of safe dosages in over the counter medications.  You may find you have more side effects than the desired effect of cold medicine.  We do not recommend any of these for children.

my boyfriend drank 5 beers about four or five hours ago, although he has a very bad cough! would it be safe for him to take nyquil now?

Not safe,: Because alcohol increases toxicity of nyquil by slowing drug metabolism. Also both increase sedation and drowsiness and depress the central nervous system.
Not recommended.

i gave my 8 year old daughter children's plus cough almost 2 hours ago but isn't helping, would it be ok if i gave her tiny bit of adult nyquil?

Unlikely to help: Cough is a protective reflex that allows the lungs to clear itself of irritants &amp; mucous debris. Studies of cough/cold preparations find they do little if anything in kids under 12. Mucinex can thin the secretions so they are easier to cough out, but the antihistamine containing products like NyQuil thicken them, making them harder to move.

my husband gave our daughter melatonin 1g and i didnt know and gave her the recommended dose of childrens nyquil for her cough. is there an interaction between the two?

: Go to Drugs,com and look it up. Enter everything in NyQuil into the interaction checker. You did not say how old your daughter is.
