Because...: ...It won't do much of anything. Apply cool water with washcloths often, and take Ibuprofen to decrease the pain and inflammation. And please learn the lesson mr. Sun is trying to teach you - enjoy his warmth and light, but respect his power. Apply a good broad-spectrum sunscreen lotion every time you go out in the sun.

Yes: The location of sunburn and your skin type determine the duration.  Face sunburns can fade within 2-3 days while backs, chest, and arms can take a week.  It is most important to avoid repeated sunburns as this can prolong recovery and add to skin cancer risk.
A sunburn is a wake up call to remind you that your skin should not go unprotected in the future.  Blisters occur with a severe sunburn.

Sunburn - haven't: heard of using Noxzema for this. Tylenol (acetaminophen) or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications can help sunburn pain. Cool compresses &amp; aloe vera  can be applied directly from the plant to the affected area.

While we need some sun exposure for vitamin d, skin cancers are on  the rise and may be prevented by avoiding excessive exposure to the sun and ultraviolet rays.

Sunburn: Cool wet compresses are a good treatment for acute sunburn.  After a cool or tepid shower, applying a light moisturizer can keep the skin hydrated and control some of the peeling.  Best of all is prevention with regular use of a sunscreen SPF 30-50.  Higher doesn't help much - don't pay more for higher SPFs and do look for UVA / UVB protection.

Sun burn: Medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and Naproxen to decrease pain and inflammation are useful, especially when started early.For mild sunburn, cool compresses with equal parts of milk and water may suffice. Cold compresses with burow's solution may also be used. .Aloe vera gel or aloe-based lotions may soothe irritated skin. These can be found in the drugstore. Prescription topical steroids.
