my husband has took licorice root for a week1/2. last night he got severe kidney pain and stomach pain. body temp ranges from 95.1-97.2. pain gone now?

You haven't said why: your husband was taking the licorice root. What did he think he was treating? If he has something serious he may be masking the problem rather than treating it. I suggest he make an appointment with a health care professional for a thorough evaluation. Pain is NEVER a good sign even when it goes away quickly and often says there is something bad happening in the body.

could i use skin products with licorice extract, kojic acid and hyaluronic acid? are any of these acids or extracts harmful if pregnant?

Bebecause: Because these are topical it should not cause a problem. Not enough absorption into blood stream.

Safe: I'm not aware of any reason to believe that licorice causes neural tube defects. Anyone can allege anything. Eating a lot of black licorice can raise blood pressure, and hopefully you're being monitored. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

: As a kidney doctor, I have not encountered a case of Alprazolam induced kidney disease. If the formula give you a GFR or Cr clearance of above 60% which is considered normal.  What was your serum creatinine in the previous years?

Kidney failure: Inflammation from hus can cause kidney failure, nothing can be done to prevent it but getting early and right treatment for it may help prevent it's complications!

: It has been FDA approved to treat only one condition: interstitial cystitis. Kidney damage is not listed as one of its side effects but Web MD advises to consult your doctor about its use as a supplement if you have liver or kidney problem. As a kidney specialist I have never encountered any case of DMSO related kidney injury but I am not advocating its use unless there are clearly benefits.

i have lupus (nephritis-kidney), is it harmful to eat beets?

Possibly: Lupus nephritis can lead to chronic kidney disease (an elevated creatinine on your bloodtest). If you have ckd, then beets are bad for you.  Beets have a high amount of potassium so people with CKD can not eliminate that excess potassium. High potassium in the body can lead to cardiac issues.  Therefore avoid beets if your lupus nephritis caused chronic kidney disease.

Effects on kidney: Citrate lyase is not harmful. The hydroxycitric acid (hydrocitric acid) in small amounts would not be harmful either. Large doses of hydroxycitric acid over time could potentially be harmful although there are no case reports or data to prove this. More important than having one kidney is knowing  the kidney function is. Best answered  with egfr a calculation of kidney function done by your doctor.

See below: Noodles by themselves do not harm the kidney.

what's your opinion on moringa. do you know of anyone taking it, have you seen it do any good, and is it potentially harmful to the liver and kidneys if someone is also taking certain medications?

: I do not object alternative medicine but I always advise my patients if they want to try those they should not take regular (Western medications) because of the unknown interaction(s).
