Flu: If you are 75 years old and on Prednisone and think you have the flu( fever ,aches,nose congestion) and can't eat or drink go to an ER. You need to be hydrated or you will have complications. Also being on prednisone and age 75 places you at increased risk for complications, including superinfection with bacterial pneumonia. Seek attention in ER immediately ( call 911)

Flu care: If what you have is a viral gastroenteritis, more commonly known as the stomach, flu, the best thing to do if you are actively vomiting is to stop food intake. But you will need to stay hydrated with fluids such as water, juice or electrolyte solutions such as gatorade. Once you are settled down from the vomiting slowly reintroduce soft bland foods like bread, toast, rice applesauce, and bananas.

:  It is not unusual to have my old feelings of possibly fainting when you are sick with a viral illness. I will continue to drink lots of fluids. You may want to check your blood pressure to be sure it is not too low. If it is, then you should consider going to an urgent care or emergency room. Good luck.

Flu and sore throat: Firstly make sure its flu and not strept throat. Then you can get a throat lozenge that will sooth the throat and help you to swallow. Keeping yourself hydrated is important.

Not normal, but...: ...it is not terribly unusual. When your temperature goes that high, your fluids and electrolytes are bound to get thrown off, in spite of your water consumption. You should make sure you get enough potassium along with the water. You could drink Gatorade or Pedialyte, or eat bananas. Also, your body is dehydrated until your urine is clear. If it's still dark or yellow, you're not drinking enough.

Until they are bette: Get immunized with influenza vaccine.  Unfortunately, however, there are many viruses and other nasty critters which can cause symptoms resembling those of influenza.  Suggest you keep your distance until their coughing, runny nose, fevers, chills and muscle soreness have disappeared.
