is it safe to take imodium and lexapro? i am new to taking lexapro 10mg daily and also have ibs. i want to make sure i can continue taking imodium as needed. when needed i take 1-2 pills of imodium multi symptom relief a day for 2 days?

: You can take small dose as needed for a day or two but daily use with regular dose of imodium is not recommended due to risk of cardiac arrhythmia.

Imodium isn't good: I don't recommend imodium or other meds that might stop diarrhea - because if u think about it, diarrhea is actually good. Your body is getting rid of toxins (bacteria, viruses etc) -so why stop it up?  On rare occasion, such as a wedding, then I would agree. There are other ways to work with the symptoms though... such as staying at home half the day. No drug interactions to worry about w/ Zoloft

Imodium (loperamide): I would question the real need for Imodium (loperamide) on a daily basis here. If your gastroenterologist is following you for ibs diarrhea-type, then this may be part of the therapy plan. But i would need more context to provide more detailed direction/recommendations. Seeing a licensed gastroenterologist (if you're not already) is recommended.

good day, please advise i am fresh off a course of flagyl antibiotics in tuesday due to a dental absus, i am now experiencing diarrhea and am 30 weeks pregnant, it is safe for me to take imodium? i have had banana and flour and water but still.thanku

Diarrhea: Diarrhea can be a side effect of Flagyl and should improve about 3 days after you stop it. Evidence based guidelines show that it is safe to take Imodium.

Accepted Answer

Yes: entamizole has 2 ingredients though, diloxanide and metronidazole, the former works in the intestine, the latter penetrates tissues, to kill protozoa as amoeba, imodium reduces gut motility so helps with cramps and diarrhoea. Good that you asked, always exercise caution with multiple medications

: I would suggest that you just continue the probiotics, if the loose stools is not bad, well after you have stopped the antibiotics. If the loose stool is bad it may be better to be reevaluated rather than take Imodium.
