is it ok to take zyrtec (cetirizine) (antihistamine for allergies) and dayquil (cold/flu medicine) together?

Depends: If you are taking plain zyrtec (cetirizine) (antihistamine only) you can take dayquil, but you should not take nyquil which also contains an antihistamine. Zyrtec (cetirizine) d contains a decongestant and antihistamine so it should not be mixed with other meds such as dayquil.  It is always important to read the ingredient labels of any over the counter medicines as many medicine contain the same or similar ingredients.

will claritin (loratadine) protect against drug allergies for a full 24hrs? is it safe to use it if i've had hives from other, unrelated antihistamine pills?

Safe but...: It may last that long but may not be potent enough to control your hives.  You may need to up the dose to 4x daily.  It is unusual however to develop hives from taking any kind of antihistamine and thus i would suggest that you consult an allergist to sort this out.

Antihistamines: Claritin (loratadine) is a 2nd generation (non-sedating) antihistamine. If it doesn't affect your wife's graves ds control, a different 2nd generation one may work better for her without causing problems; Allegra is its name; there is also prescription clarinex, which may work better than claritin (loratadine). Zyrtec is a newer antihistamine but may not be as safe. Suggest discussing problem with endocrinologist.

Yes: Dayquil doesn&#x27;t contain an antihistaminic, read the labels for other preparations though, fine to take together and with doxycycline, good that you asked, always exercise caution with multiple medications, wish you wellness

my allergy medicine is not working.i am taking cetrizin hcl antihistamine. i also took benadryl (diphenhydramine) and loratadine tablet but not working. at night time while sleeping  feel ok but once you get up and move then symptom comes back.

These medications: are usually quite effective for straight-forward allergies/allergic rhinitis.  Especially with your up--right posture symptoms, you need to make sure you don't have any mechanical obstructive issues like nasal polyps. It is not unusual to develop growths in the nose in people with allergies. They are difficult to see/diagnose without special instruments, so I would see an ENT specialist. Good luck

Other choices: There are several other antihistamines that are options.   These include Cetirizine (zyrtec),  levo-cetirizine (xyzal) fexofenadine (allergra), and des-loratadine (clarinex).  It's not clear why some antihistamines seem to work better for some people than others, but these are worth a try.  Also, there is a nasal spray antihistamines including Astepro which works really well for some people.

Maybe . . .: Benadryl is a brand of generic diphenhydramine which is a 1st generation antihistamine. Loratadine is a generic 2nd generation antihistamine. While it's best to avoid foods that cause allergies, answer to your question is a qualified maybe b/c it depends upon type of allergy and amount of exposure. If you're anaphylactic to peanuts, only epinephrine will save you, in which case you need EpiPen.
