i had a septoplasty/turbinate reduction . my right nostril is in a lot of pain. get nasal strips out tomorrow. but right nostril is throbbing. it seems like the nasal strip is pushed far back&i can feel pain on the roof of my mouth. is this normal?

: The best person to answer this question is the person who performed the procedure. That provider will know exactly where the packing for the nostril is located and if the current sensations are normal for the location of the packing. You should call that provider and discuss your current symptoms, especially if they are new. Good luck!

i just had septoplasty 3 days ago.  i am experiencing a lot of facial & ear pressure.  is this normal?

Congestion: It is normal to feel congested after septoplasty because of swelling with in the nasal tissues. Check with your surgeon about remedies you can use for this. Sometimes saline rinses or decongestants can be helpful.

how long after septoplasty can i start exercising again? i normally exercise most days of the week. i don't feel right if i take off more than 3 days. i realize i'll probably need to wait longer than that, but how much longer?

You : You probably could start a graduated program of exercise after 4-5 days but start off slow. The risk is nosebleeds which are more likely as the heart rate and blood pressure increase with the level of your cardio work-out.

No: You have a eustachian tube dysfunction, but not usual to have ringing after septoplasty. Get it checked.

Very soon: Difficulty sleeping after any type of nasal surgery can be difficult due to the swelling and the nasal packing that may have been placed by your surgeon. Once the packing has been removed, sleep will be much easier. It's a good idea to sleep on several pillows during the first week to aid in reducing the swelling. Be patient, it will be over quickly. Yes: I tell my patients it takes up to 6 weeks to notice an improvement if there is going to be one. I liken the nasal lining to a nicely waxed car... Your towel slides across a waxed car. When you cut into the lining for septoplasty and turbinate reduction, you "mess up the wax job" and it takes time for that lining to regenerate. If not better in 6 weeks, don't expect any improvement after that.

is it normal for dissolvable stiches after a septoplasty to feel very tight.

Maybe: After this kind of surgery, there can be a good deal of swelling inside the nose.  Your surgeon should have scheduled you for regular post-operative visits to check on you.  If you are using the medications prescribed as directed and still feel discomfort, please contact your doctor so that s/he can ensure that there isn't anything going wrong.

This is normal: This is likely due to post operative swelling and mucus.  I typically tell my patients don't expect total improvement until all this resolves.  Depending on the patient, this may take up to 1 month.

had rhino-septoplasty done 1month ago all stitches have not dissolved is this normal? if so how long can they take  as i feel some pain and irritation

Check with your MD: It depends on the type of suture used.  I imagine you are referring to stitches inside the nose.  Some types dissolve in 6-8 days and others in 4-6 months.  If they are irritating they can easily be removed.  Just call your surgeon's office and check.  They would want to hear from you if you are having any issues at all.

how long after septoplasty can i sleep on my side? that's my normal position, and i have trouble spending the whole night on my back. also, even if i start on my back, i usually end up on my side by morning. would that be bad for getting good results afte

I : I wouldn't expect your final septoplasty results to be affected by whether you sleep on your side or not. You may find that you may have some increased nasal congestion (than you would otherwise have) initially after surgery but either way you should get to the same endpoint of healing regardless.
