Normal: It is very common to feel one's heart beat against the left side of your rib cage as the heart is located on the left side in the chest cavity. This is most noticeable while lying on your left side. At times our heart beat is more forceful than others depending on various factors such as the effect of exertion,anxiety, caffeine,alcohol,etc.

sometimes when doing yoga, or having other physical activity i'll lay on my back after and briefly feel my heart beat in my stomach, is it normal?

This is normal: It's normal to feel your heart beating at times, particularly when you are quiet or still after an interval of heavy exertion. At those times, you may be aware of that feeling in your chest, abdomen, or even in your fingertips.  As long as there is no pain involved, and the sensation fades as your heart rate and blood pressure recover with resting, you're OK.

Your anxiety: I'd like to encourage you to get a handle on your anxiety. It might be related to the heart beat question and if not, that can be a reason for an exam. But being very anxious is not healthy, so consider CBT - it's a great way to learn how to understand and manage anxiety. If the therapist thinks a drug might be helpful - they'll advise. Pills alone are not the best idea. Be well!

Cardiologist : A pulsing sensation in the tummy (like a heartbeat) may be a symptom of an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA).  It is a bulge or swelling in the aorta, the main blood vessel that runs from the heart down through the chest and tummy.  Seek for a cardiologist.

Aorta: You are feeling the pulsation of the aorta which is the largest artery in the body and because you're young and slender, there probably is no pathology. An aneurysm is the usual concern in an adult, but if you have continued concerns consult your physician who will check for this and also make sure your blood pressure is not elevated.

Pulsation after meal: What you are likely experiencing is a normal phenomenon called a "parasympathetic shunt."  When you are digesting food, blood is directed to the intestines and you may actually be able to detect an abdominal pulsation.  Another possibility is that, if your abdomen becomes distended after a large meal, the pulsation of a large blood vessel, the aorta, may be transmitted throughout the abdomen.

: It is unlikely that this is a heart related issue but you could wear a heart monitor to check heart rhythm. Recurrent left anterior chest pains can come from the rib cage, lung,,stomach or esophagus. Pinched nerves or muscles in the rib cage are usually sharp&amp; fleeting &amp; provoked by a deep breath. Cough accompanies lung pains. Esophageal spasms are often relieved by drinking water. See gastroenter
