Yes: there are other vaccines they must have had just to get through k-12 grades. Recommended vaccines for college would be Hep A/Boostrix/HPV vaccines in addition to others normally received

Meningitis: The risk of contacting meningitis as an adult is minimal. In a third world country be much more concerned with malaria, and other mosquito born diseases. For third world countries check with an infectious disease specialist for vaccination reccomendations.

i received a letter from up where students are encouraged to get vaccinated against bacterial meningitis. 
they also recommend the 3 in 1  + chicken pox. my child received these vaccinations in early childhood. do i have to order all 3 again at 18?

Your choice: The early vaccines covering MMR and chickenpox are generally effective in bringing protection to 90-95% of the population &amp; lasts for life. However if the kid falls into the 5-10% that did not respond to the earlier doses, a community outbreak exposes them to a higher that normal risk of any of these illnesses. The same goes for meningitis, which does not have long term (decades) of effectiveness.

Yes: The vaccine itself should not alter the activities you usually pursue. It triggers background activity in your general immune system and has nothing to do with your head.

Not the only symptom: Bacterial meningitis causes a severe headache and neck ache- not just general malaise and nausea....That sounds more like flu.
Viral meningitis can be passed form person to person and bacterial forms that we do not have vaccines for so yes to second part of question-
if you have concerns about meningitis that person needs to be seen asap.

Post serious illness: Yes. Unfortunately. There is quite a lag time in healing from this kind of severe physical and emotional trauma...Especially when it affects the brain so directly.

Not related: if you recovered from bacterial meningitis, you can certainly be affected by other viruses or bacterial infection from another source, I suggest a medical exam to include a CBC to test your body's immune system and ability ti fight off infection.

Sure of diagnosis?: Are you sure you had bacterial meningitis? Did you undergo a spinal tap &amp; CSF fluid culture which confirmed the diagnosis? You may have just had a severe ear infection or some other condition with symptoms that mimicked meningitis. If you DID have meningitis, hopefully you were treated with the right antibiotics right away &amp; your immune system was strong enough to recover. Not everyone is so lucky
