i have a cough and have started moaning as i fall asleep. i've only ever done when i had pneumonia around 18 months ago. should i be concerned?

Possibly: But cannot diagnose you over the internet.  If you are feeling poorly it never hurts to get somebody to examine you.  On the other hand, if you have no other symptoms (fever, chills, shortness of breath, chest pain, etc.) it is not likely that this is pneumonia (although atypical pneumonias do occur).  Go and see a doctor.

now again, i am not able to sleep.
feels like my heart has a racing, beating faster.
no other symptoms.slight cough.
had cetirizine, and cough syrup. unable to fall asleep.

Check cough syrup: Look up the cough syrup ingredients. If any decongestants, do not use in the second part of the day as they can cause palpitations. If your symptoms persist, check in with your GP. Stay well hydrated.

hi i have a question regarding an itchy cough at night. soon as i fall asleep i wake up with itchy sensation in throat coughing/gagging kinda.

Itchy throat: Please see your doc to make sure you do't have a condition that may close your throught.  After that, consider getting a food sensitivity lab panel.  Great Plains Laboratory in Kansas has a good one.  Eliminating the offending food(s) can help.  Peace and good health.

You named reasons: Both a head cold and fluoxetine cause fatigue. Is your man getting at least 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep? Eating well? Depressed? All can contribute.

No: Patients that fall asleep rapidly (less than 5 minutes) usually are sleep deprived.  It may be also a sign of poor sleeping habits.  It is unlikely that falling asleep quickly is dangerous.

Unlikely: The term sleep latency is used to describe the time between deciding to try to sleep and entering into sleep. I've read 5-10 min is a desired time. I look on anyone getting there quicker as lucky, great task efficiency. If you are falling asleep during tasks or in inappropriate settings the cocern changes to why & might deserve looking into.

Multiple causes: Could be your airway collapsing (sleep apnea) as you transition from wake to sleep.  Other common causes of cough that's worse/only present at night include acid reflux, and post nasal drip.  See you doctor and get a more thorough evaluation/history.  Appropriate testing, if indicated, will happen from that point.  Good luck!

Tooth decay: Babies who fall asleep with a bottle in their mouths are sleeping with milk sugar on their teeth. This leads to baby bottle tooth decay. It is much better to use a pacifier, if needed, at bedtime.
