Not exactly: Palpitations usually describe an awareness of ones heart beat. Sometimes people are aware of a normal but more rapid heart beat, sometimes extra beats are the cause and in some, ongoing irregularity of the heart beat (most common example atrial fibrillation) may be the cause.

Need a monitor: Your symptoms are most likely related to an irregularity in the heart (cardiac) rhythm. The kind of symptom complex you describe may be associated with a benign cardiac rhythm disturbance, like single premature beats, but it may also be associated with a more significant arrhythmia. A  24 hour cardiac monitor would be helpful in determining the cause of your spells.

NothingOnTheQ-THere: Yes, it can be inherited and yes, it can be acquired (several medications can do it). I'm assuming that one of the "tests" you had was an EKG (test of the heart's electrical conduction system; they attach you to a bunch of wires and the result looks like a bunch of squiggly lines on graph paper). The EKG would tell you if the Q-T is too long. The Holter would be  a good idea too, whatever the Q-T.

Hard to guess: An adult in his 30's who feels palpitations should be checked by his primary care doctor (family medicine or internal medicine) to make sure his body is ok from a general check-up point of view, and to listen to his heart. It could be a thyroid hormone problem, or could be that his heart is beating irregularly for another reason, etc...  Additionally, a cardiologist can also evaluate.

Not true: There was a Junk study in 2013 in which the folks  given azithromycin had more heart rhythm disturbances. A huge 2017 study confirmed the common-sense idea is that the explanation was these people being sicker to begin with. Stop troubling yourself over this stuff. Get your palpitations checked out by someone who knows what they are doing, and if they are innocuous, be glad for good health.
