hi my baby is 10 months old. i stated taking the contraceptive pill called yaz is it safe during breast feeding? the doctor gave it. think she forgot that i still breast feed her. will it harm her in any way?any bad effects on her?

Mastalgia: Breast pain or mastalgia is usually described as a dull ache.  It can be cyclical and a response to hormonal changes or non cyclical and without known cause.  
When in doubt, a good breast exam can be reassuring.  Hormonal pain tends to be both sides and on the outer aspect, not associated with lumps or cysts, and lasts about 5-7 days a month.

No: There are no human studies that are done during pregnancy and breast feeding that can reassure any woman that a medication is safe during these processes. The most commonly used bcp during breast feeding are the "mini" pills that contain only progestin. Realize that they may effect breast milk production, however.

Birth control: Asap, unless you want to et pregnant.  Remember to use a secondary form of birth control that 1st month, because it won't be 100% effective.  You can wit till the sunday after your next period, but then you need 2 forms if birth control till then, or abstinence.

Can start right now: It is safe to start birth control right away after a pregnancy - you don't have to wait for a period.  Just start with the first pill in the pack, and it will regulate your cycle.  Remember, with the mini pill, it is important to take your pill around the same time every day, and to switch to stronger birth control when you stop nursing/pumping, or slow down to nursing/pumping only twice a day.

Cramping.....: ......Can result from the pill, uterine iinfection, or other  gyn issues.   See your doctor if symptoms worsen or persist.

Yes, you can: You can use hormone methods like the progestin-only mini-pill or the Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud. You can also use low-dose estrogen-progesterone birth control pills 4-6 weeks after delivery. Another option: barrier methods like the condom, diaphragm and cervical cap. Hope this helps!

Try a lower dose: Typically this would be a sign of too much estrogen in the pill you are using. Explain your symptoms to your physician and see if a lower dose pill containing less estrogen can be prescribed

i have breast cysts and believe that the contraceptive pill can worsen this. i've tried going off  but have been advised that i shouldn't by psychiatrist. any advise or alternative options?

It is a : Possibility.  Consider switching to an IUD - very effective for contraception.
