Creatinine: Creatinine level depends on many things....Age, race, sex, muscle mass.  For women, the usual creatinine is between 0.6 and 1mg/dl.  For men, between 0.9 and 1.4mg/dl.  As we age, the creatinine should lower slightly (less muscle mass).  The number is important but so are the trends.  Usually, I am not very concerned with a creatinine of 1 unless its someone very young or very small/frail.

Here are some...: Please ask his doctor who likely knows his serial serum creatinine for comparison and his clinical profile for correlation. At 3, S creatinine may be 0.2-0.5 mg/dl reflecting his lean muscles, hydration, &amp; solitary kidney. It is right to just use one report to tell if kidney works well or not at this time.  So, asking his pediatrician is the most reasonable thing to do.  All the best to his health

Side effects of drug: Telmisaran component of your medication can cause mild creatinine elevation. It's ok as long as doesn't keep going up.

Control and prevent.: Treatment is aimed at controlling the underlying disease which is causing his dysfunction ( diabetes, hypertension, etc.) and in preventing further damage to the kidneys by avoiding any kidney toxic medications and in potentially taking appropriate medications such as angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors.  Sounds like you have already talked to someone about this.

i had my overnight fasting and my creatinine is 124. normal range is 59-104 umol/l. when i retested my creatinine without fasting, my level is 102.23 umol/l. normal range is 50 -120. why is that? which one is believable? do i have ckd?

: If you don't drink water during that 8-hour fasting period your volume is mildly low which may cause a higher serum creatinine. However, that only happens in a patient with borderline kidney function and it is apparently present in your case because your serum creatinine is quite close to the high normal limit of 104. Unless you have a very good body mass, otherwise you probably have mild CKD.

Less than 10%: Under normal circumstances, creatinine levels do not vary by more than 10% over a year. Dehydration and change in renal function and cardiac output are common factors affecting creatinine. See this site for more info.
