Speak to prescriber: according to drugs.com, sertraline can reduce the effectiveness of codiene at time necessitating and increased dose of pain med.
Definitely something you would want to discuss directly with prescriber, no concern for serotonin syndrome.

If it has: been opened for that long, throw it out. If still sealed air tight and has been stored in a cool dark cabinet it may be safe. Best bet is to not risk it and get fresh.

Narcotic addiction: Long term effects of taking any narcotic are physical and emotional addiction and tolerance to the medication. Codeine causes nausea that often gets better with time, but the constipation will persist. Talk with your doctor about alternative solutions.

a doctor prescribed my 5 year old son codeine / promethazine at 5ml doses. should i be concerned?

High range: If your kid is big for age this is at the higher end of the recommended amount and usually reserved for kids over 6. Most at this age get by on half this amount,  if needed.  Monitoring the kid for drowsiness and sedation are important. I prescribe this med occasionally but only a few times per year. Most kids can benefit from available otc meds.

my dentist prescribed me tylenol with codeine. ive never taken codeine before so i wanted to google it & what came up was that the fda has banned tylenol with codeine. why? & why is it still allowed to be prescribed if its banned?

: I am not sure if you got the right information. If a medication had been ordered and pharmacy filled it, the medication is not banned, especially a narcotic analgesic. In the USA, any medication which is not or no longer approved by FDA won't be available in the drug stores.

Not vicodin: I don't think it is the vicodin because it is out of your system by now but there is something going on system wise in you body (flu, cold, virus etc) and you should contact your MD for a thorough evaluation.  No worries

Discuss w/ Dr: Appetite changes can be an early sign of many issues. It's best to have an exam. If there's no new condition, the pain problem for which you take the pills may be a cause itself. Years of those pills are a worry - so have regular checks on this plan. I hope it's cleared up soon!

Not recommended: Any time you take expired medication, you run the risk of taking a medication that may have a different chemical makeup then was originally intended. I would recommend you dont use any medication beyond its expiration, especially not two years past.
