No good idea : Drinking mineral oil is not a good idea. If a youngster is constipated there are problems that need a proper evaluation by a doctor and the problems can be resolved thre correct way.

Water: Constipation is usually from too much constipating food, not enough fiber, or not enough water.   If he was never constipated before, try a couple of ounces of water once or twice a day.  If that doesn't help, consider that what you regard as not to much rice might actually be too much for him.  Is he eating fruits and vegetables?  Those help a lot.

Recovery phase: Most likely you are recovery from loss of a lot of important fluids and electrolytes in your system, if you had a stomach virus.
You need to increase fluids and make sure to get potassium and magnesium, which are lost with diarrhea and vomiting. Coconut water is a good source of fluids and electrolytes. If you don't start to feel better, call your doctor. Would avoid the bran until you drink more.

Please Stop : Please stop putting cereal in your infant&#x27;s milk. This is not proper, is dangerous, and never was advised by your baby&#x27;s doctor.  Please contact your baby&#x27;s pediatrician to learn when it is proper to begin introducing food to your baby&#x27;s diet. It is not at seven weeks, i can assure you.

3F: Fluids, fruits and fiber are a good start in the battle with constipation.  A big glass of orange juice, along with 2 servings of fruit {avoid bananas) will help.  Find cereal that you like that is high in dietary fiber.  Read labels and compare in the grocery, where there are plenty of options.  Similar meals throughout the day, plus veggies, should help.  Otherwise, check with your doctor!

In general, when anyone has constipation, it could be because a certain food has affected the gut.  It helps to change things around, maybe another type of cereal.  Whenever constipation exists, it should be immediately addressed as you are doing!  try probiotics if the constipation persists despite changing the diet.

Fiber?: White rice and farina(the white bread of hot cereals) have no fiber to speak of. Brown rice has a bit more. Whole wheat cereal, e.g. Wheaten a, whole oats, e.g. Oatmeal, oat bran have more fiber. Can't have a decent stool without adequate fiber. In general, aim for 25-35gm/day. Lots of good sources of fiber, r.G. Beans, fruit/veg, whole grains. Lots of good info online.
