Yes: In kids with a wheezing tendency as toddlers this can keep you out of the er dropping to once a day when they are not coughing is also ok.

33 yr old/female. dizziness and lightheaded. taking allegra d, symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) and pro-air. blood pressure 95/60. why dizziness?

BP a bit low: Your BP is a bit low which maybe causing your dizziness. If the dizziness occurs often from rapid change of position from  laying to sitting or standing , then likely it is due to low bp. If dizziness associated with change of head position/rapid rotation or up/down position, it is possibly vertigo. Keep well hydrated and take it easy for couple of days. If not better, consult doc. Good luck.

2 yr old dxd with eoe and gp - was on swallowed budesonide for eoe  for 3 months - egd showed hsv esophagitis - did steroid cause hsv?

No: A steroid cannot  cause hsv infection. Hsv is a virus that  is transmitted to children often transplacentally from the mother in utero. Certainly, the virus can be transmitted orally via oral contact with someone carrying the virus. The steroid can suppress the immune system and allow the virus to activate and become a problem, as it did in this child's esophagus.

No, don't use: Out of date medications not only have less active ingredient, but they can contain breakdown byproducts which can be harmful for your health, especially in inhaled meds. Medications should only be used by the person for which they were prescribed. Talk to a Dr to get a prescription for yourself.

Nebulizer: You can combine them. Remember that the Budesonide is only supposed to be given 2x per day maximum. Keep in close contact with your child's pediatrician and notify them immediately if there is any worsening of your child's condition.

If indicated: In medicine, one needs to balance the risk/benefit ratio in treating any illness. The side effects of budesonide depend on the dose and the duration but usually not significant in most cases.  If your kid has persistent asthma , then it is certainly indicated since the benefit greatly exceeds the potential risks.

Unlikely: Inhaled steroids, as opposed to those taken by mouth (pills, syrups) or given through the blood, should not stunt growth at any but the very highest doses. So no, not a worry.

how close together can you give nebulized pulmicort (budesonide 0.5mg)? forgot to give "extra" pre-op dose. 11 hours until surgery. 6yr old child.

Accepted Answer

Pulmicort: The 0.5 mg dose is once a day. You can give half the dose every 12 hours, so you could give 0.25 mg dose now.
