Depends on cause.: Infectious mastitis (and the pain associated with it) resolves as the infection is treated with antibiotics. However, some mastitis is hormone-related and occurs each and every month with menstrual cycles, or can occur when oral contraceptives (hormones) are changed. Recurrent mastitis can aslo be seen in breast feeding mothers, which is a combination of the two issues above. Every woman is unique.

Mastitis: It could be mastitis.  I would continue breastfeeding and seek evaluation with a physician.  If it is an early mastitis, antibiotics will likely be needed.

'heartburn': Heartburn is the way most people experience acid reflux   breast tenderness is usually not related.

Check pregnancy test: I do not know what the abbreviation af is. If you are concerned you may be pregnant then check a pregnancy test. They are cheap and reliable and available at any pharmacy.

When in doubt: just check pregnancy test.  And if you are still not bleeding normally and first pregnancy test was negative, check it again in 1 week. If both negative and your symptoms persist, get to a GYN so they can help you determine what the next step is to regulate your period and minimize the adverse symptoms.

Puzzling: This is very unusual to be in your breast at your age.  There has been no redness or rash, drainage from the nipple or any other findings. If you pick up the breast by itself off the chest and squeeze is that sore? If you move the breast to the left further and press on the ribs and chest wall does that cause more pain then it could be in the chest wall. Keep seeing your provider.  Hope this helps

i stopped breastfeeding completely about a week ago and was gently weaning. i have had now for last couple of days all of a sudden pain in my right breast its sore to touch and feels hard and lumpy at parts. could i have developed mastitis?

Maybe: Sometimes these are plugged lacteals (channels where BM is distributed) that may clear if you express breast milk enough to remove the blockage. A warm compress may help relax surrounding tissues. If it feels hot or appears reddened it is likely mastitis. Contact your doc for guidance as needed.

Mastitis: At this time you've done what you could, but I feel that her gynecologist or breast surgeon should evaluate and treat your wife, especially if there's associated redness and warmth of the breast. This is not just some hormonal imbalance causing one breast to be congested.
